Town of Morristown Seeks Volunteers for Waterfront Advisory Committee to Guide LWRP Master Plan Update
MORRISTOWN, NY – The Morristown Town Board will establish a Waterfront Advisory Committee (WAC) to guide the comprehensive update of our joint Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP). Developed in cooperation with the New York State Department of State (NYS DOS), this legal planning framework dictates land and water use rules across our community's coastal boundaries, specifically targeting Morristown Bay and our shoreline along the St. Lawrence River. The project is being funded by a New York Department of State planning grant of $91,000.
Updating the LWRP ensures that federal and state projects align with Morristown’s zoning desires. It also secures priority access to state grants for maritime infrastructure, public boat launches, dock expansions, and downtown revitalizations.
The Town Board is seeking 8 to 12 engaged community volunteers to serve a multi-year term. To meet the state’s requirement for balanced community representation, applicants should bring perspective, professional experience, or organizational associations from at least one of the following local categories:
Interested residents should submit a brief letter of interest outlining their professional or personal background, their organizational or neighborhood connections to the waterfront, and why they wish to serve.

- Property Ownership & History: Direct waterfront homeowners along the river, agricultural operators, or representatives from local historical preservation societies.
- Recreation & Tourism: Avid anglers, recreational boaters, kayakers, or trail volunteers utilizing local parks like Jacques Cartier State Park.
- Meeting Attendance: Commit to attending periodic public committee meetings at the Morristown Municipal Office.
- Consultant & Plan Oversight: Collaborate with municipal leaders to review draft plan sections and guide the hiring of professional planning consultants.
- Public Outreach: Act as community ambassadors to gather input from private landowners and residents during public workshops.
